AWC encourages a smarter regulatory process

awcAmerican Wood Council (AWC) President and CEO Robert Glowinski issued the following statement regarding today’s passage of the Require Evaluation before Implementing Executive Wishlists (REVIEW) Act (H.R. 3438) by the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill would require a federal agency to postpone the effective date of a high-impact rule, defined as any rule that may impose an annual cost on the economy of at least $1 billion, pending judicial review.

“The cost, complexity and sheer number of domestic regulations are greater than ever. Sensible government regulations can provide important benefits, such as protection of the environment, health and safety. However, unnecessary or poorly designed regulations waste limited resources, undermine sustainable development and erode the public’s confidence in our government.

“We believe that if passed, the REVIEW Act would prevent adoption of rules such as the 2010 Boiler MACT proposals, which would have cost the wood products industry at least $3 billion in required capital investment, were technically unachievable, and would have severely disadvantaged biomass boilers.

“AWC supports a smarter, more cost-effective regulatory process and thanks Congressman Marino for leading this effort.” Said Robert Glowinski, President and CEO of AWC.
