American Wood Council (AWC) President and CEO Robert Glowinski has issued the following statement – the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) reconsideration of the Boiler Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) rule.
“With just three short months before the compliance deadline, AWC is pleased that this critical piece of the rulemaking is completed. Our member companies need to know these important implementation provisions to complete their compliance planning for a regulation that will nonetheless result in millions of dollars of capital expenditures.
“The addition of dry biomass as a qualifying ‘clean fuel’ for boiler start up is helpful. Wood product manufacturers produce almost 80 percent of their own energy through the use of carbon neutral biomass residuals, and this reconsideration will allow mills to avoid costly retrofits required to burn alternative fuels.” He concluded.
