AWC supports Boiler MACT decision

 Monday, December 26, 2016

awcAmerican Wood Council (AWC) President and CEO Robert Glowinski has issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit (D.C. Circuit) Court decision to remand the Boiler Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) rules back to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). AWC supported EPA’s request for a remand.

“Hopefully, this decision gets us one step closer to finalizing Boiler MACT. Wood product manufacturers produce approximately three-quarters of their own energy through the use of carbon neutral biomass residuals as fuel in boilers. AWC urges EPA to quickly address the Court’s concerns so wood products manufacturers can focus on manufacturing wood products rather than wondering whether their already-expended significant investments to comply with Boiler MACT rules are sufficient.

“Having said that, AWC appreciates EPA’s willingness to work with us during development of these rules to address our concerns, and hopes that this final chapter can be completed in 2017.”
