AWC to takes further initiative to support innovative wood products

 Friday, January 20, 2017

awcAmerican Wood Council (AWC) President and CEO Robert Glowinski issued the following statement in response to former Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue’s nomination as Secretary of Agriculture in President-elect Donald J. Trump’s Administration.

“AWC welcomes the announcement of former Governor Perdue’s nomination as Secretary of Agriculture. Georgia is no stranger to the wood products industry; almost 20,000 men and women work in wood products manufacturing facilities. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has been active in advancing the use of wood products to help lessen the life-cycle impacts associated with the building sector.

“We encourage Governor Perdue to continue USDA and the Forest Service’s historically strong support for basic research, as well as its more recent engagement and study into the newer and innovative wood products that would allow tall wood building construction. Tall wood buildings would introduce carbon-neutral building materials to our urban areas, as well as job creation in rural areas.”
