New Intelligent Tooling from Leitz at AWFS 2017

 Thursday, June 29, 2017

leitzLeitz continues to lead the industry in innovative tooling solutions that optimize productivity and product quality. New Intelligent Tooling Solutions from Leitz are no exception.

Using embedded chip technology and specialized QR codes, Leitz Intelligent Tooling solutions allow users to monitor tooling processes without shutting down production.  On-board information such as tool geometry, maximum RPM, direction of rotation, setting dimensions, feed rates and cutter compensation are engineered into the tools, optimizing processing functions—including productivity, quality, and efficiency. This electronic connection allows for:

•    assessment of the tool condition (wear)
•    determination of the remaining tool life – including forecasts about performance time
•    allocation to the machine – including optimal changing cycles
•    allocation of maintenance parameters
•    tool tracking

Intelligent tooling continuously gathers data, registering critical operating information to further optimize future production. Based on the data provided, a machine can set appropriate processing parameters. Additional benefits from this link include improved operational safety, trouble-free resetting of tools and simulation of machining processes. This also results in quality improvement and increased energy efficiency, as the tools are always used in the rated range adding to stable and efficient production processes.

In addition to Intelligent Tooling, at AWFS 2017 Leitz will debut ProfilCut Q Diamond to the US market. Expanding on the Leitz world-renowned ProfilCut Q profile insert system, ProfilCut Q Diamond is the first sharpenable profile PCD insert system featuring constant diameter and constant profile. ProfilCut Q PCD is also the fastest diamond insert system, with approved cutting speeds of 120 meters/second, due in part to the Leitz proprietary safety locked inserts which cannot move under centrifugal forces. Available in lightweight aluminum or steel design, ProfilCut Q PCD can be adapted for use with virtually any machine application.

The newly designed Leitz BrillianceCut circular saw blades will also be at AWFS. BrillianceCut circular saw blades drastically reduce the need for extra finishing steps, saving time and money without compromising quality.  Engineered with a specific cutting geometry to process transparent materials, BrillianceCut blades reduce noise, supply stability, and ensure a high-quality finish.
