USNR achieves major milestone: Three veneer dryers launched in just three months

 October 6, 2025

USNR has reached a significant milestone, successfully starting up three new complete veneer dryers across the southern United States within just three months. This impressive achievement highlights the company’s commitment to improving the veneer drying process for Southern Yellow Pine, a key product in the woodworking industry.

Operating at an impressive capacity of 100,000 square feet per hour at a 3/8” basis, these newly installed dryers are now responsible for processing approximately 5% of all Southern Yellow Pine veneer dried in the region. This marks a substantial contribution to enhancing the efficiency and capacity of veneer drying operations in the South.

Innovative Design Drives Dryer Performance

According to Clint Spangler, Mechanical Engineering Manager at USNR and a leader in veneer dryer innovations, the key to the success of these dryers lies in balanced heat transfer. “USNR’s engineering team has been working diligently for years to develop high-output steam heaters that integrate with advanced airflow systems. These innovations enhance heat transfer without compromising veneer quality,” said Spangler. The result is a new generation of veneer dryers that surpass the performance benchmarks set by previous industry standards, including the Coe M72 and M208 dryers.

These advancements have not only increased dryer efficiency but also allowed for a more sustainable process, ensuring that the veneer dries uniformly while maintaining the material’s integrity. The combination of cutting-edge technology and the dedicated efforts of USNR’s engineering team has set a new industry standard for veneer drying.

Teamwork and Dedication Lead to Success

Sales Manager Carl Thomas expressed immense pride in the team’s accomplishments, stating, “What an achievement! Three dryer startups with three different customers across three states in just three months. I’m incredibly proud of our entire team for their hard work and dedication throughout each of these projects. I’m excited about the gains each of these customers will achieve with these new dryers.”

The successful deployment of these dryers highlights USNR’s ability to meet the unique needs of its customers, working closely with them to ensure that every dryer system is customized for optimal performance. This personalized approach has helped USNR maintain its strong reputation in the woodworking industry.

Looking Ahead to Future Innovations

The success of these three dryer installations is only the beginning. USNR remains committed to pushing the boundaries of veneer drying technology, with plans to continue improving its systems and developing new solutions for the woodworking sector.
