Arauco expands Thermally Fused Laminate Line by 50%

 Friday, June 10, 2022

Arauco is expanding capacity of its thermally fused laminate (TFL) line at its state-of-the-art particleboard mill in Grayling, MI.

A $20 million investment will to bring a third TFL line to Grayling, increasing the mill’s lamination capacity more than 50 percent in support of the Prism TFL decorative surface product. Prism is among the offerings that Arauco Priowill exhibit at IWF 2022. The new line is expected to be commissioned and operational in late 2023.

Prism TFL is an extensive line of thermally fused laminate designs featuring authentic textures and realistic woodgrains, along with rich solids and neutrals. Arauco offers a large portfolio in its Prism TFL for commercial and residential applications, including complementary products from prominent manufacturers.

“We are excited to continue investing in Crawford County and our Grayling Operations. This investment further highlights our commitment to better serve the needs of our North American customers through value-add products,” says Pablo Franzini, president of Arauco North America.

Arauco has grown dramatically in North America, formally opening its 820,000‐square‐foot, state-of-the-art particleboard and lamination facility in Grayling, MI in April, 2019. Construction on the Grayling mill began in 2017 with a $450 million investment.

The technologically advanced particleboard and lamination operation in Grayling is the company’s first greenfield facility in the United States, its 11th North American manufacturing site and the largest of its kind globally. It houses North America’s highest-capacity, single-line particleboard press, and prior to this expansion already has two thermally fused laminating (TFL) lines and a large stocking warehouse for just-in-time service delivery.

Arauco is a global manufacturer of forest products, including the industry’s most comprehensive selection of composite panels, millwork, premium plywood, lumber, and wood pulp. With roots in sustainable forestry and innovative product development, Arauco brings more than a half century of manufacturing and supply chain excellence to the North American market. The company delivers through 22 ports, and ships to more than 3,500 destinations throughout North America.
