The Sansin Corporation has taken a strong step forward for fire-safe exterior wood finishes. Its Factory-Finish product, PC WoodForce, has secured a Euro Class D, s1, d0 fire-rating certificate under the European standard EN 13501-1. This follows a Single Burning Item (SBI) test, carried out according to EN 13823, on vertically oriented, rough-sawn spruce (18 mm thick, shiplap profile).

The euro rating—Class D, with smoke class s1 (limited smoke) and no flaming droplets or debris (d0)—adds a new safety milestone for PC WoodForce, which already has a reputation built over two decades. “PC WoodForce has a 20‑year history of performance. Now, with Euro Class D fire‑rating, it brings added value for wood product makers,” said Sjoerd Bos, Managing Director of The Sansin Corporation.

This finish belongs to Sansin’s Precision Coat family. It’s a high‑performance, ultra low‑VOC, water‑borne wood treatment designed to give exterior surfaces a natural, gently weathered look. It repels water aggressively yet still lets wood breathe. During wetting, it cuts water absorption by up to 74 percent—plus, it resists sunlight breakdown and erodes evenly over time for easier maintenance.

PC WoodForce comes in clear, gray, and vintage tones, and can also be custom‑tinted to fit architectural needs.

Sansin, based in Strathroy, Ontario, has been specializing in eco‑friendly, water‑based wood finishes for more than 35 years. With offices in the Netherlands and Rhode Island, and dealers across Canada, the U.S., Europe and Australasia, Sansin focuses solely on wood protection using low‑toxicity formulas that deliver outstanding color and durability.

This latest certification supports the company’s ethos: combining environmentally sound formulations with enhanced safety and long‑lasting performance. Wood manufacturers and OEMs now have an exterior stain option that not only meets high aesthetic and sustainability standards but also satisfies increasingly stringent fire‑safety requirements in global markets.

Company’s product page explains WoodForce as an ultra‑low‑VOC, durable treatment that helps wood age gracefully while still blocking water, blackening, discoloration, and rot.

Why it matters:
Wood products used in exterior architectural elements—from siding and fences to outdoor furniture—must endure moisture, sun, and weathering. Adding a recognized fire‑resistance rating lets manufacturers and architects specify a finish that aligns with building safety codes, especially in regions with strict fire performance demands.

As a factory finish, PC WoodForce supports production lines that need consistent, efficient coatings. The Class D, s1, d0 rating makes it eligible for projects that require certified fire performance without sacrificing the natural appeal of weathered wood.
