Arauco explores new MDF plant in Mexico

 Monday, November 1, 2021

Arauco, the main board producer in Mexico, and second largest worldwide, is taking the first step towards building a new MDF plant in Mexico.

The company, which closed three MDF plants in the U.S. in 2021, is conducting an Environmental Impact Assessment to evaluate the viability of a new MDF production line in Zitácuaro, Michoacán.

This project, subject to the approval of local and state authorities, is expected to start production during 2024 and will double the company’s MDF capacity in Mexico. The new MDF line will cost an estimated $200 million in operational and environmental technologies.

“We are investing in Mexico to meet the growing demand in the construction and furniture industries,” said Pablo Franzini, president of Arauco North America. “This is a demonstration of our commitment to the market and will ensure we continue to develop and maintain successful relationships with our commercial partners.”
