In September 2016, the Brazilian exports of wood products (except pulp and paper) increased 13% in value compared to September 2015, from $209.5 million to $237 million, as reported by ITTO (The International Tropical Timber Organization).
The value of pine sawnwood exports jumped 63% between September 2015 ($21.7 million) and September this year ($35.3 million) and in terms of volume exports increased 85% over the same period, from 97,900 cubic metres to 181,100 cubic metres.
Tropical sawnwood exports also increased in September by 30% from 23,200 cubic metres in September 2015 to 30,200 cubic metres in September this year. The value of exports also rose but by just 24% from $11.4 million to $14.1 million over the same period.
In contrast to the performance of sawnwood exports pine plywood exports fell slightly in September 2016 in comparison with September 2015, from $36.4 million to $35.8 million however, the volume traded increased around 7% from 125,300 cubic metres to 133,800 cubic metres, over the same period.
As for tropical plywood, exports increased 59% in volume, from 3,900 cubic metres in September 2015 to 13,200 cubic metres in September 2016. In value, exports increased 39% from $3.9 million to $5.4 million, during the same period.
The value of wooden furniture exports increased from $34.8 million in September 2015 to $35.7 million in September 2016, a 2.6% increase.
The decline in the domestic construction sector and strengthening of the US dollar led to an increase in processed timber exports in the first three quarters of this year.
