The Canadian Wood Council (CWC) has announced the release of five new Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for essential Canadian-manufactured wood products, including softwood lumber, oriented strand board (OSB), plywood, trusses, and prefabricated wood I-joists. These EPDs offer comprehensive, cradle-to-gate environmental data, detailing the potential impacts of these products through their life cycle.
A Commitment to Sustainability and Transparency
Developed as industry-specific, Type III declarations, the EPDs comply with international standards such as ISO 21930, ISO 14025, ISO 14040, and ASTM guidelines, ensuring the environmental impact data is credible and third-party verified. This information will assist designers, builders, and policymakers in making informed decisions about sustainable materials.
Peter Moonen, National Sustainability Manager at CWC, shared, “The release of these new EPDs underscores our commitment to sustainability and transparency. By providing science-based environmental data, we support the industry’s transition to low-carbon construction and demonstrate the environmental benefits of using wood products.”
These new EPDs will further promote the use of sustainable building materials in Canadian and global construction projects, aligning with ongoing efforts to reduce carbon footprints.
