Caroline Hipple-appointment

The American Home Furnishings Alliance (AHFA) has announced a historic leadership transition with the election of Caroline Hipple, CEO of HB2 Resources, as Chair of its Board of Directors. The announcement was made during the organization’s Annual Meeting & CEO Conference, held on November 14 in Savannah, Georgia. Hipple’s appointment marks a noteworthy milestone, as she becomes the first woman to serve as board chair in the association’s 120-year history.

AHFA, a leading trade organization representing manufacturers and suppliers in the residential furniture and furnishings industry, plays a central role in advocacy, education, and industry standards across North America. Hipple’s election reflects both her longstanding involvement in the sector and the industry’s broader movement toward more diverse leadership at the highest levels.

Caroline Hipple joined the AHFA Board of Directors in 2020 while serving as president of Norwalk Furniture, a well-known custom upholstery manufacturer. Her election to the board at that time represented a continuation of gradual progress toward greater female representation within AHFA’s leadership ranks.

Hipple was the fourth woman to serve as a director on the AHFA board, following Amini Audi of Stickley in 2008, Stefanie Lucas of Rowe Furniture in 2010, and Karol Czanderna of Flexsteel in 2015. Her elevation to chair underscores both her professional credibility and the growing recognition of women leaders in the traditionally male-dominated home furnishings manufacturing sector.

Now leading HB2 Resources, a consulting firm specializing in strategic planning and organizational development for home furnishings companies, Hipple brings a broad perspective shaped by executive leadership, manufacturing operations, and industry advisory work.

In addition to Hipple’s election as chair, AHFA announced several key leadership roles within its Executive Committee, reflecting a balance of continuity and future-focused planning.

Melinda Whittington, CEO of La-Z-Boy, who joined the AHFA board in 2022, has been named first vice chair, a role she will assume in 2026. Her appointment signals a continued emphasis on leadership development within the organization’s governance structure.

Jeremy Hoff, CEO of Hooker Furnishings, will serve as second vice chair, bringing extensive experience in case goods, upholstery, and international sourcing to the executive team. Andy Bray, president of Vanguard Furniture, completes the Executive Committee as immediate past chair, providing institutional knowledge and leadership continuity as AHFA transitions into its next chapter.

During the annual meeting, AHFA also confirmed several executives who have been elected to new three-year terms on the Board of Directors. These appointments reflect the organization’s broad representation across product categories, company sizes, and market segments within the furnishings industry.

Executives beginning new terms include Mike Bradshaw of Avalon Furniture; Jamie Collins of Homelegance; Mark Franklin of Franklin Corporation; Eric Graham of Baker Furniture; Sean O’Connor of Universal Furniture; Eric Parsons of Jensen Outdoor; and Veronica Schnitzius of American Leather. Collectively, these leaders bring expertise spanning indoor and outdoor furnishings, motion upholstery, case goods, and leather manufacturing.

Several board members will continue serving terms set to expire at the end of 2026. These include Doug Bassett of Vaughan-Bassett Furniture; Chad Gore of Leggett & Platt Furniture Components; Travis Wagner of Ashley Furniture Industries; and Mark Weber of Southern Motion. Their ongoing participation supports stability and continuity within AHFA’s governance as the organization navigates ongoing industry challenges.

Board members with terms expiring at the end of 2027 include Jeremy Copeland of Carpenter Company; Jessie Flanders of Lloyd Flanders; Fred Henjes of Riverside Furniture; and Derek Schmidt of Flexsteel Industries. Together, these directors represent a wide cross-section of the home furnishings supply chain, from raw materials and components to finished goods manufacturing.

All newly elected officers and directors will officially assume their roles in January, setting the stage for AHFA’s strategic initiatives in the year ahead. The association continues to focus on key priorities for the home furnishings industry, including regulatory advocacy, workforce development, sustainability, supply chain resilience, and industry data and education.

Hipple’s historic appointment as chair comes at a time when the furnishings industry is navigating shifting consumer preferences, economic uncertainty, and evolving global trade dynamics. Her background in both manufacturing leadership and strategic consulting positions her to guide AHFA through these complexities while fostering collaboration across the industry.

Caroline Hipple’s election as the first female chair of the American Home Furnishings Alliance Board of Directors represents more than a personal achievement—it reflects a broader evolution within the furnishings industry. As companies increasingly prioritize inclusive leadership and diverse perspectives, AHFA’s new leadership structure signals a commitment to representing the full scope of talent shaping the future of home furnishings in the United States and beyond.

With experienced executives across its board and executive committee, AHFA enters the new year positioned to continue its role as a unifying voice for the home furnishings industry during a period of transformation and opportunity.
