Culpeper Wood Preservers, a prominent name in pressure-treated lumber manufacturing, is revolutionizing the market with its new Culpeper Column PLUS. This innovative product is a 6×6 hollow laminated column crafted from southern yellow pine. It boasts superior durability and visual appeal while being lighter, easier to handle, and stronger than conventional solid wood columns. Additionally, Column PLUS is designed to resist twisting and cracking, setting a new benchmark for both performance and aesthetics in the industry.
The new Column PLUS is designed for applications such as porch columns, decking, and load-bearing roofs. In terms of aesthetics, Column PLUS can be painted, stained, or customized to achieve a variety of looks and serves as a real-wood alternative to PVC, fiberglass, or aluminum columns.
“A key design feature of Column PLUS is its hollow construction that allows users to run wiring through the interior for junction boxes, outdoor lights, speakers, and more” said Jonathan Jenkins, president at Culpeper Wood Preservers. “This gives homeowners a lot more flexibility for a cleaner appearance while still being able to have all of the extra outdoor elements they enjoy.”
Column PLUS is made with high-grade southern yellow pine for a cleaner appearance and enhanced structure. It is kiln-dried after treatment and then formed with glue, which makes it much less likely to move when properly installed.
Column PLUS stands out from traditional wood columns due to its superior moisture resistance and higher treatment retention level. These columns are treated to a 0.23 retention level for UC4B ground contact, compared to the standard 0.15, ensuring greater longevity and durability once installed in the substrate. Furthermore, Column PLUS boasts a higher load-carrying capacity than solid timbers and surpasses both composite and PVC options in strength ratings.
For optimal performance and durability, it is crucial to store Column PLUS columns in a dry environment prior to and during installation. To maintain their appearance and structural integrity, these columns should be primed and painted or stained immediately after installation.
