Douthit Timber Co. wins FRA’s 2025 Southcentral region Outstanding Logger Award

Donald and Jared Douthit of Douthit Timber Co., LLC, based in Wellington, AL, have been named the recipients of the prestigious 2025 Southcentral Region Outstanding Logger Award by the Forest Resources Association (FRA). The award was presented at the FRA’s Southcentral Region Spring Meeting in Morrilton, Arkansas.

Recognition for Excellence in Logging and Safety
FRA’s Southwide Region Manager, Clay Altizer, introduced Douthit Timber Co. as the award winners, highlighting their commitment to safety, professionalism, and community involvement. Ben Smith, Executive Director of the Alabama Loggers Council, shared his admiration for the Douthit family’s business acumen and their efforts in logging workforce development, particularly in inspiring the next generation through local school outreach.

Smith emphasized, “Jared and Donald Douthit are solid business-minded individuals, with a deep understanding of their market and an unwavering commitment to employee safety.”

A Legacy of Success in Logging
Founded in 2018 by Donald and Jared Douthit, Douthit Timber Co. has grown from humble beginnings into a regional leader in logging. Starting with a small crew and a used log truck, the company now boasts a team of 10 employees and a fleet of modern equipment. Douthit Timber Co. processes approximately 75,000 tons of pulpwood and sawtimber annually and serves six mills in the region.

Commitment to Safety and Community Outreach
Douthit Timber places the highest priority on safety, conducting regular training, safety meetings, and proactive technology-driven monitoring of operations. Thanks to these efforts, the company has maintained a flawless safety record, with zero employee injuries since its inception. The company’s commitment to community outreach also includes efforts to recruit high school students into the logging profession, helping to ensure the future of the industry.

Donald and Jared Douthit graciously accepted the award, acknowledging their team and family for their hard work and dedication. The award, sponsored by STIHL, Inc., includes an engraved cross-cut saw plaque, a check, and a STIHL MS 462 chainsaw voucher.
