Garnica participates in sustainable construction

 Tuesday, August 29, 2023

Garnica participated in the establishment of the Impulso Verde Building, one of the groundbreaking examples of ecological architecture, with the usage of its Fireshield Building boards, forming the roof of the building. The Fireshield fire retardant plywood made entirely of high-quality, sustainably managed local wood has an innovative treatment that gives the building exceptional resistance to fire, even after sanding or machining. The company and its products actively encouraged the establishment as these boards will significantly reduce carbonization speed, smoke generation, and flame propagation, guaranteeing safety and protection against fire.

The Impulso Verde Building in the city of Lugo is major step that is taking sustainable construction a step forward. Mostly built with local wood the building will be the emblem of future Multiecological Neighborhood. The building represents a significant advancement in the fight against CO2 emissions, emitting 90% less than traditional concrete and steel buildings, in addition to absorbing 280 tons of emissions.

The building has been co-financed by the European Union through the LIFE Lugo+Biodinámico program, as well as by the Diputación de Lugo, and its realization has been in charge of an enthusiastic team of professors and researchers from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) and the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), directed by the coordinating architect Dr. Antonio José Lara Bocanegra.

The Impulso Verde is the first building in Spain to obtain the Complete Project FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) certificate. This guarantees that the wood used in the work comes from forestry operations manages with strict sustainability standards. Garnica feels proud to have contributed to this project that brings a web of change in the constructive perspective, thereby solidifying the base ecological architecture.
