Hampton Lumber-competition

Exciting News from Hampton Lumber!

Of late, the company has announced the return of its Lumber Wrap Design Competition, inviting high school students to contribute original artwork that will be featured on lumber distributed across domestic and international markets. The initiative reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to community involvement, education, and creative expression within the forest products sector.

Following the success of the inaugural competition in 2022—where student-created designs were applied to lumber wrap used at Hampton’s U.S. sawmills—the 2026 edition expands participation to a broader group of schools. Educational institutions located near Hampton’s manufacturing facilities in Oregon and Washington are once again invited to take part, joined this year by schools in communities surrounding Fairfax, South Carolina, the site of Hampton’s planned first sawmill in the southeastern United States.

The competition provides students with a unique opportunity to work on a real-world design brief, connecting classroom creativity with an industrial application. Participants are encouraged to develop artwork that highlights wood as a building material, the environmental and economic value of working forests, and the distinctive identity of their local communities.

According to Hampton Lumber, the program is designed not only to celebrate art but also to strengthen ties between the company and the regions in which it operates. By integrating student artwork into everyday packaging materials, the company transforms functional lumber wrap into a platform for storytelling and youth expression.

Winning schools will receive $15,000 to support art education and career and technical education (CTE) programs, while Honorable Mention recipients will be awarded $1,000. As the finished lumber is shipped to customers throughout the U.S. and overseas, each bundle serves as a visual ambassador for the community where it was produced.

Hampton Lumber is a fourth-generation, family-owned wood products company headquartered in Portland, Oregon. With manufacturing operations across the Pacific Northwest and a planned expansion into the U.S. Southeast, the company is known for its focus on sustainable forestry, long-term forest stewardship, and investment in resilient local economies. Initiatives such as the Lumber Wrap Design Competition underscore Hampton’s broader mission to support education, the arts, and future generations within the forest products industry.
