Jowat’s Biobased hot melt adhesive earns USDA Biobased Certification

 Tuesday, March 2, 2021

Jowat has announced that its recently released GROW series of sustainable packaging adhesive has earned the USDA Certified Biobased Product label. The packaging adhesive, developed specifically for the North American market, is the first and only hot melt adhesive in the United States to attain this certification from the USDA BioPreferred Program. Jowatherm® GROW 853.xx. Bio-based hot melt adhesives for a sustainable bonding of packaging as introduced by Jowat, “We applaud Jowat Corporation for earning the USDA Certified Biobased Product label,” said Kate Lewis, USDA BioPreferred Program. “Products from Jowat Corporation are contributing to an ever expanding marketplace that adds value to renewable agriculture commodities, creates jobs in rural communities, and decreases our reliance on petroleum.”

Sustainable Growth with Jowatherm® GROW

Jowatherm® GROW marks a milestone in the development of hot melt adhesives based on renewable raw materials. Never before have cleaner and more efficient Jowat® products with such a high bio-based content been available. The modern hot melt adhesives save resources, not only due to the formulations with biological components, and facilitate recyclable bonds according to the German packaging law. In addition to its high content of renewable raw materials, the adhesive provides further benefits that make it particularly environmentally friendly.  The lower processing temperature facilitates a significant reduction in energy consumption, therefore helping in the conservation of resources and the optimisation of the working environment.

“Sustainability in packaging material is important to our customers around the world, and Jowat’s Biobased GROW adhesives are an innovative development in reducing the consumption of fossil fuel,” said Brian Sufak, Regional Sales Manager at Jowat Corporation. “We are proud to be the first adhesive manufacturer to earn the USDA Certified Biobased Product label.”

The USDA Certified Biobased Product label displays a product’s biobased content, which is the portion of a product that comes from a renewable source, such as plant, animal, marine, or forestry feedstocks. Utilizing renewable, biobased materials displaces the need for non-renewable petroleum-based chemicals. Biobased products, through petroleum displacement, have played an increasingly important role in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that exacerbate global climate change.
