LP Building Solutions launches fire-retardant OSB for safer construction

LP Building Solutions (LP), recognized as a manufacturer of high-performance building products, has introduced LP BurnGuard Fire-Retardant-Treated (FRT) Oriented Strand Board (OSB)—the first commercially available fire-retardant-treated OSB certified to meet the definitions for FRT wood structural panels under the International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC).
The new panel broadens LP’s range of fire-rated solutions, strengthening its long-term innovation roadmap and dedication to supporting builders in meeting evolving building codes. Engineered for multifamily and other fire-rated applications, LP BurnGuard FRT OSB incorporates fire-retardant protection uniformly throughout the entire panel.
The treatment is blended directly onto the wood strands before forming and pressing, delivering consistent performance through the entire thickness of the panel.
“LP BurnGuard FRT OSB represents a major step forward in how the industry approaches fire‑retardant structural panels,” said LP CEO Jason Ringblom. “By integrating the fire‑retardant treatment throughout every strand, we’re delivering consistency, reliability and ease of installation. This product gives builders the confidence to meet today’s demanding codes without sacrificing speed or performance. That’s exactly the kind of innovation LP is committed to bringing to the market.” Jason added further.
Produced exclusively at LP’s own manufacturing facilities, the panel is supported by a single, company-backed limited warranty. In contrast to pressure-treated fire-retardant panels processed by third parties, LP BurnGuard FRT OSB integrates the fire-retardant treatment directly into the production process. This proprietary, patent-pending technology has been developed in-house by LP.
Engineered for versatility, the 4 by 8 foot panels are approved as APA Rated Sheathing in both 7/16 and 15/32 performance categories. The 7/16 panel carries a Wall‑24 span rating and maintains full shear wall capacity for wall‑only applications. The 15/32 panel supports wall applications without reduction and roof sheathing applications with a 24/16 span rating, expanding structural options for builders.
LP BurnGuard FRT OSB is approved for use in exterior walls of Type III construction, as well as in nonbearing partitions and nonbearing exterior walls within Type I and II buildings. It is also suitable for additional interior applications where building codes permit FRT wood sheathing. The panel is engineered to work seamlessly alongside LP’s other fire-rated products, including LP FlameBlock Fire-Rated Sheathing.
