NALFA

The North American Laminate Flooring Association (NALFA) recently hosted its annual Fall Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from October 7-9, 2025. The gathering brought together the continent’s most influential laminate flooring manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors in a powerful reaffirmation of the association’s role as the definitive authority on industry standards, technical certification, and market education.

In a dynamic three-day event, industry giants—including Mohawk Industries, Inc., Shaw Industries Group, Inc., CALI Floors, Kronospan USA, TORLYS Inc., and Mannington Mills, Inc.—convened alongside key supply chain partners and academic institutions to strategize the next phase of growth for the high-performance flooring segment. This collective commitment underscores the industry’s focus on transparency, product quality, and long-term consumer trust.

Under the leadership of NALFA President Tom Wright of Mohawk Industries, the meeting’s core focus centered on expanding the association’s technical leadership. A major pillar of NALFA’s mission is its rigorous, ANSI-accredited testing standards, which provide a critical benchmark for quality and performance across the market.

Committee meetings were central to the proceedings, with the Technical, Underlayment, and Moulding Committees diving into the necessary refinements of existing standards and the development of new testing protocols. Key discussions included:

This meticulous work on technical standards is what allows NALFA-certified products to stand out, providing retailers, builders, and consumers with an unambiguous seal of proven performance and reliability.

Beyond performance, the Fall Meeting emphasized the critical role of sustainability and innovation in securing laminate flooring’s market position. Laminate is positioned as a resource-efficient, wood-based option, and the association is actively working to amplify its environmental story, including efforts around its LF-02 Sustainability Certification.

President Wright captured this unified momentum, stating:

“NALFA’s Fall Meeting showcased the strong momentum and unity within our industry. Our members are deeply committed to advancing innovation, strengthening confidence in NALFA-certified products, and ensuring laminate flooring continues to stand out as the trusted, high-performance, and sustainable choice for today’s consumers.”

By collaborating on certification priorities, members aim to deepen engagement with the entire supply chain—from distributors to retailers—equipping them with the necessary knowledge to confidently promote NALFA-certified products as a premium, long-term flooring solution.

Actionable Insights: Economic and Technical Keynotes

The event featured dynamic keynote sessions designed to provide members with actionable market intelligence and technical expertise critical for navigating current and future industry landscapes.

The participation of leading entities from across the sector, including manufacturing powerhouses like Shaw and Mohawk, specialized suppliers like DMX Membranes and SELIT, and major retailers like Floor & Decor, underscores the wide-ranging consensus on NALFA’s mission. The association’s core commitment to education, knowledge-sharing, and industry collaboration is the engine driving its strategic goals.

As the laminate flooring industry continues to innovate, offering increasingly realistic visuals and enhanced water-resistant features, the NALFA seal becomes even more important as a symbol of integrity and tested quality. The Fall Meeting successfully reinforced this collective mission.

Looking ahead, members are invited to continue the work and strategic discussions at the upcoming NALFA Spring Meeting, scheduled for March 10-12, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona.
