North American plywood introduces DesignPly System

 Wednesday, May 10, 2023

DesignPly, a new program of multiple-finish birch plywood panels and components, is being introduced by Santa Fe Springs, CA-based North American Plywood Corp.

North American Plywood Corporation’s new DesignPly program offers an eco-friendly, highly customizable and quick-to-market line of plywood in multiple finishes, including French oak, weathered oak, white oak, sapele and red birch.

“Plywood will never look the same, DesignPly represents a quantum leap in plywood panel products,” the company said in making the introduction. “Now, designers and architects can add a cost-effective product to their repertoire that can be customized to tailor the needs of the project.

“Digitally stained plywood can be made to look like expensive hardwood species, solid colors, patterns, artwork or photography,” it said. “The direct-to-substrate process eliminates the cost of labor for setup of films and paper and is ideal for any application where flat panels are utilized,” it said, adding it could be used for ceiling and wall paneling, floorings and furniture among other uses.

DesignPly is eco-friendly, the company says, because it “does not require additional trees to be cut down for veneer faces. Rare and exotic wood species can be replicated on plywood.” The key is the use of digital files, it says, giving it “the ability to change aspects of the design to best suit the project.”

DesignPly offers color matching capabilities, the company says, that can duplicate Pantone swatches and AMS standard colors as well as common paint chips. “And when it comes to imagery and graphics it’s the perfect process for large panel installations and displays as well as art décor.”
