Roseburg restarts Dillard MDF Construction to expand Western market leadership

Roseburg Forest Products announced on March 4, 2026, that it will resume construction at its Dillard MDF project in southern Oregon. The new medium density fiberboard facility is a key element of Roseburg’s long-term growth plans and reflects the company’s ambition to strengthen its position as a leading MDF producer in the Western market.

The Dillard MDF plant is a major part of Roseburg’s multi-year modernization program and represents a significant investment in its southern Oregon operations. The facility will be equipped with the latest-generation Siempelkamp continuous press, allowing wood residuals to be processed into high-density fiberboard (HDF), conventional MDF panels and value-added products for construction, cabinetry and flooring applications. Integrated into Roseburg’s existing Dillard complex, the new mill will also benefit from the site’s high-quality wood fiber supply and established biomass energy infrastructure.

“We are very pleased to announce the restart of our Dillard MDF project,” said Stuart Gray, president and CEO of Roseburg Forest Products. “Dillard MDF plays a key role in our future. The plant will be one of the lowest cost producers in the world, which significantly enhances Roseburg’s long-term competitive position in composite panels in the West specifically and North America in general.” Mr. Gray added.

Roseburg paused the project in early 2025 in response to uncertainty in the economy, volatile market conditions, and potential Oregon state policy shifts that would undermine the project’s viability.

“During 2025, we took a number of strategic steps to strengthen our overall business performance in uncertain times and downcycle market conditions,” said Stuart Gray. “These moves coupled with improving stability in state policy confirmed our long-term outlook for this project. We are confident in Dillard MDF as a strategic investment and look forward to continued state and local support to ensure the viability of this level of investment in Oregon.”
