In a gesture that demonstrates its commitment to improving its global business profile, Saint-Gobain has formally entered into a definitive agreement with the GG10 Group, the parent company of the rising G-Haus brand, for the sale of its Tumelero retail chain. Tumelero, a household name in the construction materials sector of southern Brazil, has been a key player in the Rio Grande do Sul region for decades. This transaction marks a significant pivot for Saint-Gobain as it transitions away from direct retail distribution in certain territories to focus on its core identity: a global leader in light and sustainable construction solutions.

The deal involves the transfer of a robust operational infrastructure that has been a cornerstone of the Gaúcho construction market. Key figures of the divestment include:

The transaction is slated for completion by the end of 2025, pending customary approvals from Brazilian antitrust authorities (CADE).

The sale of Tumelero is not an isolated event but a calculated step in Saint-Gobain’s broader “Lead & Grow” 2030 strategic plan. Following the success of the “Grow & Impact” (2021–2025) cycle, the Group is aggressively rotating its assets to prioritize high-margin, sustainable manufacturing and technology-driven construction chemicals.

By divesting retail-heavy assets like Tumelero, Saint-Gobain aims to:

  1. Reduce complexity: Streamlining the organization to focus on manufacturing high-performance materials.
  2. Reinvest in decarbonisation: Funneling capital into “green” construction technologies and circular economy initiatives.
  3. Optimise geographic mix: Balancing its presence in high-growth areas while exiting segments where it no longer seeks a competitive retail advantage.

For the GG10 Group, headquartered in Dois Irmãos (RS), the acquisition of Tumelero represents a massive leap in its market share. Founded by retail veteran Germano Grings, the GG10 Group has been on a fast-track expansion path since 2019.

The G-Haus brand, launched in 2023, was designed to simplify the construction and renovation consumer journey. By integrating Tumelero’s 16 stores, GG10 is positioned to become one of the largest specialized retailers in the state, combining its modern, digital-first approach with Tumelero’s established legacy.

This acquisition comes at a time of cautious optimism for the Brazilian construction sector. While high interest rates (with the Selic rate hovering around 14%) have pressured the mortgage market, the demand for renovation and affordable housing remains resilient.

In Rio Grande do Sul, the reconstruction efforts following recent climate events have also highlighted the need for efficient, localized supply chains. The transition of Tumelero to a locally-headquartered group like GG10 could potentially lead to faster decision-making and a more tailored inventory for the specific needs of the region.

“This operation is part of Saint-Gobain’s ongoing strategy to enhance its business portfolio, in line with its global strategic plan,” the company stated in its official release, echoing a sentiment of disciplined capital allocation.

As Saint-Gobain celebrates its 360th anniversary in 2025, its departure from the retail scene in southern Brazil signals a “maturity phase” where it acts more as a partner to the industry than a direct-to-consumer shop. Meanwhile, for the Brazilian retail landscape, the rise of the GG10 Group ensures that the competition remains healthy and that the legacy of the Tumelero brand continues under a fresh, local vision.
