“Significant milestone” – Schmalz expands US subsidiary

 Tuesday, May 2, 2023

The symbolic ribbon has been cut. A few days ago, just under two years after breaking ground, Schmalz opened the expansion of its US location. The expansion of the branch in Raleigh, North Carolina, has created space for about 60 new jobs.

“This expansion is a significant milestone and offers great added value for our customers,” said Dr. Kurt Schmalz, managing partner of Schmalz. “The U.S. is a market of extraordinary importance to us, so we look forward to the rapid development of our subsidiary abroad and anticipate further growth.”

Schmalz has experienced a steep rise in the USA. The expansion has increased the area of the Raleigh branch to about 8,000 square meters. Schmalz has invested a high single-digit million sum in this project. Even before the expansion, the US location, which was founded in 1999, was one of the largest within the Schmalz Group with around 110 employees. Now, around 60 additional jobs are to be added in the future.

Schmalz is also pursuing its growth targets in other countries. For example, the locations in India and China were also significantly expanded last year through major construction projects. In addition, Schmalz will open another location in Bydgoszcz, Poland, before the end of the year. In total, the international Schmalz Group now comprises 29 locations worldwide with around 1,800 employees.

For years Schmalz is in automation with vacuum and ergonomic handling systems and their products are used in logistics applications as well as in the automotive industry, the electronics sector or furniture production.

The broad spectrum in the Vacuum Automation division includes individual components such as suction pads or vacuum generators, complete gripping systems and clamping solutions for holding workpieces, for example on CNC machining centres. In the Handling business segment, we offer innovative handling solutions for industry and trade with vacuum lifters and crane systems. With the Energy Storage business area, we are building up a further pillar in the field of stationary energy storage.
