U.S. hardwood and decorative plywood imports decline amid market slowdown
Recent trade measures appear to be impacting U.S. imports of hardwood plywood from China, Indonesia, and Vietnam, with significant declines observed following earlier spikes in import volumes. Industry observers note that these changes may reflect the influence of preliminary antidumping and countervailing duties imposed on these markets. At the same time, there are emerging indications of potential transshipment activity through other Asian countries, including Malaysia, Cambodia, and Thailand.
Speaking on industry developments, DHA recently highlighted its ongoing efforts in advocacy, marketing, and standards during a presentation at the Canadian Hardwood Plywood and Veneer Association (CHPVA). The discussion underscored the importance of collaboration across the industry and the value of active participation in trade associations. Members of both CHPVA and DHA emphasized that strong partnerships play a key role in supporting the sector’s long-term growth and resilience.
DHA also encouraged industry stakeholders to engage with the association to better understand the benefits of membership. One of the key advantages is DHA’s widely used Where to Buy membership directory, which receives thousands of visits annually from buyers and specifiers seeking reliable sources of decorative hardwood products.
In response to growing demand for improved accessibility and usability, DHA has recently modernized the Where to Buy directory. The platform has been fully redesigned as a searchable online database, showcasing the breadth of American-made decorative hardwood products and connecting buyers directly with member businesses.
Through these initiatives, DHA continues to strengthen its role in supporting industry visibility, fostering collaboration, and promoting domestic decorative hardwood manufacturing across key markets.
