Uniboard is happy to share that the Modernization Programme for the Val-d’Or Particleboard Plant is progressing.
The third phase of Uniboard’s $350 million upgrade programme for its particleboard and TFL plant was announced in June 2022. The project was divided into three phases by Uniboard. Phases 1 and 2, finished in 2017 and 2020, each received over $100 million in investment. Phase 3 of Uniboard was started in September 2022.
A new distribution facility, which will be operational in August 2023, is the initial component of Phase 3. In June 2023, work on the structure that would house the new 10-foot wide continuous press and the finishing line began.
The new particleboard line’s installation will start in early 2024, and production will start in the first quarter of 2025. Val-d’Or’s yearly particleboard manufacturing capacity will increase with the installation of the new line from 360,000 M3 (205 million square feet) to 550,000 M3 (310 million square feet). The line’s vast selection of panel forms and thicknesses will give customers access to new markets and uses.
Val-d’Or uses 100% post-industrial wood residuals primarily sourced from black spruce softwood, renowned for making a light-colored panel with exceptional machining and cutting properties. Val-d’Or is also an FSC chain-of-custody-certified facility.
