In November, 2023, Uniboard has announced their Val-d’Or Particleboard Plant Modernization Program and now the plant is utilized to execute Renaissance Project. According to the experts of Uniboard, it will help them to modernize their particle board mill.
Uniboard is presently researching on wood fibre and that truly sets Val-d’Or apart. Val-d’Or, which means “Valley of Gold”, is named after the town’s gold mining history, but it also has a very special meaning for Uniboard. It is called black spruce and it is their golden heritage. At Uniboard’s Val-d’Or facility, black spruce holds a truly special place in the history of their mill. The fiber used in their particleboards is almost exclusively softwood, with black spruce leading the charge.
Black spruce, with its slow growth and dense tracheal cells, boasts a strength-to-weight ratio that surpasses many other woods. Since the start-up of the existing press in 1976, this ‘golden blond’ fiber has been the reference for their customers, combining outstanding physical properties, ease of cutting with the lightness and northern brightness of choice. It has been our hallmark of quality and performance, and it will continue to be their calling card in the future.
Additionally, they are proud to announce that their commitment to sustainability extends even further with Uniboard’s black spruce panels being 100% post-industrial recycled for use in the most demanding applications.
