Uniboard moves forward with its Val-d’Or Particleboard Plant Modernization Program

Uniboard proudly moves forward with the progressing work of the Val-d’Or Particleboard Plant Modernization Program. With every passing day the project attains fresh heights and improvements.

“Phase 3 of Uniboard’s Val dOr $350 million particleboard modernization project is well on track. Working on a brownfield site with a working mill supplying customers takes a special approach. It is encouraging for the team and our customers to see the progress. “Says James Hogg of Uniboard.

In June 2022, Uniboard announced Phase 3 of the Val dOr modernization project. Aptly called Project Renaissance, Phase 3 was split into two distinct projects.
Phase 3 started with the construction of a new distribution/logistics center which was completed and put into service in August 2023.

The second part of Phase 3 is the construction of a new production hall and the installation of a new continuous 10-foot particleboard press and a new 10-foot finishing line.

Work on the press foundations and production hall started in the summer of 2023. Containers of the production lines have already been received on-site. The new press line is targeted to come on stream in the 1st Quarter of 2025. The modernized Val d’Or particleboard/TFL facility will be the most advanced particleboard site in North America.
“We are right on time with the last phase of the Val d’Or modernization program,” says James Hogg President and CEO of Uniboard.

“What will set Val d’Or apart from other North American particleboard facilities is not just the latest state-of-the-art equipment, but the expertise and knowledge of our people who will operate the facility, our proven quality northern fiber supply, and our commitment to customer service to name a few” states Hogg.

The Val d’Or Renaissance project positions Uniboard to support the long-term growth of both our existing customer base and new customers for the future” says Hogg.

Uniboard Canada Inc. is a leading North American manufacturer of engineered wood products, having an installed capacity of over 660 million square feet of raw particleboard, high and medium-density fiberboard, thermally fused laminates (TFL) and high-pressure laminates (HPL). Its mills are located in Sayabec, Val-d’Or and Mont-Laurier and employ over 800 people.

Uniboard’s products are sold to retailers, distributors and finished goods manufacturers, which cater to the kitchen cabinet, furniture, office, home renovation and construction industries. Uniboard is renowned for having one of the most extensive product portfolios of interior and exterior design solutions for decoration and construction in North America, ranging from deep embossed and synchronized TFL textures to ultra-light MDF.
This particular milestone marks a significant step forward in our journey towards innovation and excellence. This new press will provide higher availability of one of the most sought-after particle boards in the industry.
