On June 18, 2025, Weyerhaeuser marked a significant milestone in the expansion of its manufacturing operations with the official groundbreaking of its new TimberStrand facility. More than 150 individuals, including key members of the Weyerhaeuser team, local officials, and community stakeholders, gathered near Monticello, Arkansas, to celebrate the event.
A Strategic Expansion for Weyerhaeuser
The new TimberStrand facility will bolster Weyerhaeuser’s position as a leading supplier of engineered wood products. It is expected to provide significant benefits not only for the company but also for the surrounding region, offering new job opportunities and contributing to local economic growth. The construction of this state-of-the-art facility underscores Weyerhaeuser’s continued commitment to the growth of its engineered wood products division.
Devin Stockish, Weyerhaeuser’s President and CEO, shared his enthusiasm during the ceremony. “We’ve operated in Arkansas since the mid-1950s, and this is a great, great place to do business,” he stated. “At the local level, we’ve really had wonderful engagement across the board. Everyone has bent over backwards to help us get this facility here, and I can tell you the reason we’re sitting here today in Monticello, Arkansas, and not somewhere else is because of that support and the engagement that we’ve had from our friends in the local community, the economic development team, the governor’s office, federal and state legislature. They’ve all made us feel very welcome, and we just couldn’t be more excited to kick off construction of this facility.”
Industry Leaders Highlight the Significance of the Event
Several key figures from Weyerhaeuser were present at the ceremony to mark this momentous occasion. Brian Chaney, Senior Vice President of Wood Products, Sean Cheeseman, Vice President of Engineered Wood Products, and Jackson Braswell, Public Affairs Manager for Arkansas and Oklahoma, all attended the event and highlighted the importance of this new facility for the company and the region.
Additionally, dignitaries from both state and federal levels attended the event, underscoring the significance of the new facility for the state’s economy. U.S. Representative Bruce Westerman, Arkansas Lieutenant Governor Leslie Rutledge, State Senator Ben Gilmore, and Representative Jeff Wardlaw all took the stage to express their support for Weyerhaeuser’s investment in the community. Jennifer Emerson, Deputy Director of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, also spoke at the event, reinforcing the positive impact that the facility is expected to have on the local area.
Supporting Economic Development and Job Creation
The new facility, which is set to manufacture TimberStrand laminated strand lumber, will play a crucial role in supporting economic development in Monticello and the wider Arkansas region. As demand for engineered wood products continues to rise, the facility will help meet this growing need while creating numerous jobs, both during construction and in long-term manufacturing roles.
Weyerhaeuser’s investment in Monticello represents a significant boost to the local economy, particularly in an era when manufacturing jobs are critical to regional growth. The company’s commitment to Arkansas is clear. The site selection and groundbreaking event were made possible by strong support from local government, business leaders, and community groups.
A Sustainable Future for the Woodworking Industry
This new TimberStrand facility will also align with Weyerhaeuser’s commitment to sustainability. Engineered wood products like TimberStrand are known for their strength, reliability, and minimal environmental impact. As a result, this investment not only contributes to economic growth but also helps promote sustainable practices within the woodworking and construction industries. The facility will be a key player in meeting the increasing demand for more sustainable building materials as industries continue to focus on reducing their carbon footprint.
Community Support and Future Prospects
Weyerhaeuser’s dedication to working closely with the local community has been a hallmark of the project. The support received from local stakeholders was instrumental in bringing this vision to life. As Devin Stockish mentioned, the partnership with the local community and various economic development teams made the decision to build in Monticello clear. “The support and engagement we’ve had from the local community, state officials, and economic development teams have made this project possible,” he said.
Looking ahead, the new facility is expected to create numerous job opportunities and continue supporting Weyerhaeuser’s mission of providing sustainable, high-quality engineered wood products. The TimberStrand facility will also be pivotal in meeting the growing demand for environmentally friendly materials in the construction and woodworking industries.
