Woodworks is inviting interested participants to participate at Wood Design Solutions which will be held on July 31, 2018 at Maggianos Little Italy – Austin from 9.30 am onwards. The topics of this show will be based on shaft walls, exterior walls, intersections, balconies.
Part 1 – Shaft Wall Solutions for Wood-Frame Structures
It is fairly common for light wood-frame commercial and multi-family buildings to include another material for the shaft construction. However, many designers and contractors have come to realize that wood-frame shaft walls are a code-compliant means of reducing cost and shortening construction schedule. In this presentation, detailing for elevator, stair and mechanical shafts will be reviewed along with relevant code provisions. Discussion will focus on fire resistance-rated design parameters, but will also include other architectural and structural considerations related to shaft walls.
Part 2 – Fire-Resistant Design and Detailing: Exterior Walls, Intersections and Balconies
A trend toward larger mid-rise wood-frame buildings has more designers seeking information on fire resistant detailing. This presentation will focus on common detailing issues and areas of misunderstanding related to exterior walls and their intersection with rated floor assemblies. Mid-rise wood-frame opportunities and code-specified building sizes will also be reviewed, followed by discussion of detailing code requirements, code compliance, and rationale for approval with an emphasis on constructability and practicality.
The speaker of this event is: Sherry Mundell, Regional Director, WoodWorks.
